Overview

City Nature Challenge is an annual event that encourages community scientists in cities around the world to get nerdy with nature by spotting as many plant and wildlife species as possible and tracking their sightings in the iNaturalist app.

This year's challenge is all about collaboration, not competition. It's an opportunity to connect with other cities across the nation—and the globe—from your home while documenting the biodiversity found in your own backyard. Nature is all around us, even in urban areas, and if you look a little harder, you may be surprised by what you find—from the smallest bug in your basement to a red-tailed hawk soaring high above your home.

By pledging to support the Baltimore region in this year's City Nature Challenge, you'll help show the world the depth and breadth of our region's impressive flora and fauna while exploring the natural world that lives in your backyard. Pledge to join us, download the iNaturalist app and help showcase the brilliant biodiversity in Baltimore and its surrounding counties!
