Living Seashore Awarded for Visitor Engagement

At last week's annual American Alliance of Museums conference, the National Aquarium was awarded a Special Achievement award for our Living Seashore exhibit!

  • News

This award, given for achievement in engagement with a living collection, highlights the research that developed the exhibition and the visitor's ability to link conservation principles to their interaction with the animals on display.

Living Seashore explores the Mid-Atlantic's coastal ecosystem. This highly-interactive exhibit, which just celebrated its first anniversary in May, has two touchpools and a variety of hands-on experiences. Atlantic stingrays, horseshoe crabs and moon jellies occupy the 5,000 gallons of salt water in the space.

These interactives are designed to invite guests to think critically about conservation and the coastal environment in the Aquarium's backyard! Guests leave with a new appreciation for the unique habitat created within the exhibit.
