National Aquarium Senior Marine Mammal Trainer April Martin has known most of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in Dolphin Discovery for their entire lives. In this video, she talks about how dolphins use vocalizations and body language to communicate. April and the other members of the Marine Mammal team also learn how each dolphin at the Aquarium expresses themselves. They use this knowledge to train the dolphins and prepare them for their future move to an outdoor oceanside habitat. This ability to communicate back and forth has the added benefit of building trust between the dolphins and their trainers.
