Blacktip Reef Receives Significant Achievement Award!

We're excited to share that the National Aquarium's Blacktip Reef exhibit was recognized for Significant Achievement in Exhibit Design by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA).

"This award is the highest honor for new exhibits, and the National Aquarium is on the leading edge of aquatic exhibits in North America," said AZA President and CEO Jim Maddy. "Blacktip Reef demonstrates the Aquarium's innovation and commitment to providing the best in animal care and public education to help connect people to nature."

The coral-filled exhibit, which recently celebrated its first birthday, replicates an Indo-Pacific reef. Stingrays and a school of blacktip reef sharks swim among a lively array of tropical fish. And a floor-to-ceiling, pop-out window provides a killer underwater view of other Aquarium favorites, like our 500-pound green sea turtle Calypso and zebra sharks Zeke and Zoe.

Haven't had the chance to visit Blacktip Reef? Don't fret. You can watch a live stream of the exhibit on our website!
