The National Aquarium is pleased to announce the promotion of Nabila Chami to vice president, strategic alignment. In this new role, she will be tasked with aligning cross-functional strategic efforts, ensuring the organization's work advances revenue and reputation goals. This position serves in a leadership capacity on various organizational steering committees responsible for developing long-range plans for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice; conservation action; partnership strategy; revenue generation and more.
Since 2017, Chami has served as a core team member for a variety of long-term strategic planning initiatives, including the development of organization-wide strategic plans regarding conservation action as well as diversity, equity, inclusion and justice. As vice president, strategic alignment, Chami will report to Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer Margot Amelia to help develop the Aquarium's short term and long-range strategic plans, as well as effectively educating all levels of staff on the value of strategic planning, data-supported prioritization of work and regular program auditing and evaluation.
"For the last decade, Nabila has been an integral part of the marketing team's success in communicating our mission to inspire the next generation of hopeful conservationists," said Amelia. "This new role is an investment in the future success of the National Aquarium and we know Nabila has the expertise and historical knowledge required to lead this work."
Chami began her career at the National Aquarium in 2012 as social media and public relations coordinator and was promoted to director of content strategy in 2016, where she drove the development of a holistic content strategy approach, including branding and messaging priorities to support key objectives. In 2018, she was promoted to director of brand strategy, where she led an in-house team of creatives, content writers and social strategists in executing the organization's brand strategy, ensuring external storytelling was timely, impactful and on-brand. Throughout her tenure, she has been the recipient of awards for excellence in social media from the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Magazine and Baltimore Business Journal.
Chami holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from American University.
