Experience the Aquarium like never before with an immersive audiovisual journey exploring biodiversity
The National Aquarium is pleased to present the second installment of Voyages, an original immersive event series for adults that inspires a connection to nature and celebrates Baltimore.
At Voyages: Chapter 2, voyagers will kick off their journey with local vendors serving up some of the best of the Baltimore food scene before embarking on an audio-focused tour of National Aquarium exhibits. Voyagers will have the opportunity to choose their own musical adventure, exploring the live performance of a composition by featured artists Jessica Keyes and Patrick McMinn that includes acoustic musicians, projected visuals and electronic music played through individual headphones.
Following the immersive journey, voyagers will conclude the evening with an after-party featuring performances from local emcee Eze Jackson, accompanied by DJ Trillnatured.
As the featured artists for Voyages: Chapter 2, Jessica and Patrick explore biodiversity in the Chesapeake Bay through the lens of oyster reef ecosystems, tides, filtering and schooling. Their composition is the result of months of research, both individually and collaboratively, thanks to a group of scientific advisors. Featured scientist Imani Black is the founder and CEO of Minorities in Aquaculture, a nonprofit organization that strives to empower and support women of color in the aquaculture industry. After completing an aquaculture training program at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in 2016, Imani worked on oyster farms, nurseries and hatcheries in Virginia and Maryland before landing at Hoopers Island Oyster Company, where she was the assistant hatchery manager from 2018 to 2020.
The National Aquarium has partnered with a group of community and scientific advisors to provide guidance and insight into each event based on their areas of expertise. Community advisors for Voyages: Chapter 2 include culinary activist Chyno 'The Blue Bearded Foodie,' Marisa Dobson: Founder of Scintillate and partner for Church Cocktail Bar, Light City festival organizer and Smithsonian curator Ashley Molese, and more.
Voyages: Chapter 2 is an adults-only event for guests 21 years of age or older and takes place on November 17, 2022, from 6 to 11 pm. Tickets are on sale now.
