The National Aquarium is proud to participate in the second annual Maryland STEM Festival. The festival features over 450 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-centered events and activities at more than 230 different venues throughout Maryland from November 4 to 13, 2016.

Join us as we celebrate the 10-day festival’s kickoff on November 4. The day's events begin with speakers, activities and entertainment across the Inner Harbor at the Maryland Science Center and continue in the afternoon along the Aquarium’s Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Waterfront Park.


Opening Ceremony

10 am to 10:30 am
Maryland Science Center

Kick off the 2016 Maryland STEM Festival with refreshments, entertainment, "Star Wars" characters and featured speakers:

Pop-Up STEM Activities

10:30 am to 12 pm
Maryland Science Center

  • Enjoy STEM-related activities and experiments along the Science Center’s front entrance, inside the lobby and throughout the building with paid admission.

Free STEM Activities

1 pm to 3 pm
National Aquarium’s Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Waterfront Park

  • EXPLORING WITH SONAR: Learn how sonar works and how researchers use it to explore underwater worlds.
  • UNDERWATER ROBOT: Check out how robots are assisting researchers exploring the depths of the ocean.
  • CITIZEN SCIENCE: Help the National Aquarium’s conservation efforts by identifying and documenting wildlife through citizen science.
  • DIVE DEEPER: Learn about our aquatic world by visiting the National Aquarium.*

This Week in Science Podcast*

2 pm to 3:30 pm
National Aquarium Harbor View Room

"This Week in Science," a weekly, hour-long web and radio show presenting a humorous and irreverent look at the week in science and technology, will record live from the National Aquarium. A NASA scientist, a world-renowned Baltimore beatboxer and National Aquarium Director of Conservation Laura Bankey are the scheduled guests.
