Aquarium Announces New and Enhanced Programs for Locals

11/17/2014

As part of its continuing effort to extend community access to all Marylanders, the National Aquarium has announced the expansion of Fridays After Five to be year-round, the introduction of Pay What You Want Day, and the return of Maryland Mornings and Dollar Days.

“Living our mission to inspire conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures starts right here in Baltimore,” said Aquarium CEO John Racanelli. “These new programs are designed to give residents of our City and State ever-greater access to what is, after all, their aquarium. Our hope is that these enhancements will allow all Marylanders to become better stewards of the national treasure in our backyard: the Chesapeake Bay.”

For more than 30 years, families and locals have been able to take advantage of special pricing on Friday nights after 5 p.m. at the Aquarium through the popular Fridays After Five program, presented by M&T Bank. For the first time ever, the National Aquarium is extending Fridays After Five to continue year-round. This year’s program launched Oct. 3 with a special price of $12 through March 2015. Pricing details for tickets beginning in April will be announced this winter. Tickets to Fridays After Five are available online or on-site.

New for 2015, Pay What You Want Day allows Maryland residents to donate an amount of their choice for admittance, with funds supporting the National Aquarium conservation efforts. The first-ever Pay What You Want Day will be held on Jan. 11, 2015.

Maryland Mornings, which launched in 2012 and runs from September through February, provides Maryland residents who visit before noon Sunday to Friday $10 off adult tickets and $5 off children tickets. Tickets are available on-site to those who reference the program at the National Aquarium ticket center and show proof of residency.

In conjunction with its downtown neighbors, the National Aquarium is offering Dollar Days, where visitors can enjoy a $1 admission fee for two days every December. The 2014 Dollar Days dates will take place on December 6 and 7. Tickets will be available on-site and must be purchased on the day of visit.
