September 17th is #AskACurator Day on Twitter!

Today, museums and cultural institutions from around the world are making their curators available to answer questions from their online communities.

From 1:30-2:30pm ET, our Curator of the Upland Tropical Rain Forest, Ken Howell, will be answering your questions about our exhibit, the ecosystem it represents, and the diverse array of species found there!

Golden lion tamarin

Did you know? Although it covers less than 2 percent of the Earth’s surface, the world’s rain forests are home to approximately half of the its plants and animals.

In addition to their immense environmental value, rain forests provide cultures from around the world a plethora of products, including: timber, coffee, cocoa, and medicinal aids. Unfortunately, the production of these goods has lead to deforestation and habitat loss in many rain forests.

Be sure to send Ken your questions by tweeting @NatlAquarium with #AskACurator. Not on Twitter? We’ll also be accepting questions submitted via our Facebook page!
