Join the National Aquarium at Baltimore's 38th annual Artscape, the country's largest free arts festival, from July 19 through 21! This year, we are partnering with our friends at Our Last Straw, Inc. to ask festivalgoers: When it comes to plastic pollution, where do you stand?
We believe that plastic pollution is a problem that can be solved in our lifetimes. Visitors will be encouraged to examine their single-use plastic habits in light of this rally point and gain a deeper understanding of the ways in which plastics are affecting our waterways and natural spaces. They'll also learn how, with a few simple changes, each of us can become part of a necessary global solution to plastic pollution. For the sixth consecutive year, visual artist and MICA graduate Kasey Jones will join us in shedding some light on the issue by creating A Ripple Effect, an illuminated, interactive art piece crafted out of 225,000 repurposed straws highlighting the impacts of human-made debris on the Chesapeake Bay.
All guests will be able to add their conservation efforts and intentions to our pledge wall and take away colorful, declarative buttons. This year, you can find the National Aquarium at the intersection of Charles Street and Lafayette Avenue, just a few steps south of the Charles Theater, throughout the weekend. For the first time, we'll be on hand all day and into the night as Artscape After Hours keeps the party going until 11 pm along Charles Street. Check out artscape.org to plan your visit.
