Join the National Aquarium at the Baltimore Book Festival, situated along the Light Street promenade in the scenic Inner Harbor!

In partnership with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, the National Aquarium is proud to present a full weekend of FREE programming for ocean and conservation enthusiasts of all ages!


Animal Encounters

Join National Aquarium animal care staff at 2:30 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the Inner Harbor Stage to get up close and personal with an animal from the Aquarium! From turtles to lizards and everything in between, you never know what you might see in this interactive encounter.


Read to Reef Featured Author Spotlight: Jennifer Keats Curtis

Bring the kids to the Enoch Pratt Free Library Children’s Stage at 1 pm on Friday to hear award-winning children’s author Jennifer Keats Curtis read Turtles in My Sandbox, which is based on the real-life terrapin head start program and is a selection from the National Aquarium’s Read to Reef Book Club. Learn how young children are working to protect our Maryland state reptile!


Sustainable Seafood Discussion Featuring Barton Seaver

Join writer, chef and sustainability advocate Barton Seaver and the National Aquarium’s Director of Seafood, Tj Tate, for a conversation about the heritage, culture and future of seafood. Seaver will share insights from his upcoming anthology American Seafood while examining why we must embrace seafood sustainability—for our ocean and ourselves—on the Food for Thought stage at 4 pm on Saturday.


National Aquarium Presents: Amy Sutherland

Come to the Inner Harbor stage on Sunday at 11 am to learn about National Aquarium staff featured in Kicked, Bitten and Scratched, best-selling author and journalist Amy Sutherland’s memoir about the year she spent shadowing students at the top college for exotic animal trainers. Hear about her newest book, Rescuing Penny Jane, which tells the story of the dedicated people who work to save shelter dogs.
