National Aquarium Names New Communications Manager
National Aquarium is pleased to announce the hiring of Amanda Forr as Communications Manager.
As Communications Manager, Forr will create, edit and deliver content and communications relating to the organization’s mission within brand guidelines. This includes content for online communications such as the website (http://www.aqua.org), mobile website, and social media platforms, as well as for marketing materials, the quarterly magazine, Watermarks, and the weekly WYPR-FM show “A Blue View.”
Forr comes to the Aquarium with more than 10 years of professional writing and editing experience. She joins the organization from Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), where she was a Technical Editor, a position she held since 2009. During that time, she served as project manager, managing a team of publishers and proofreaders, and editing documents and proposals for the company; wrote content for marketing materials, procedures and technical documents; and managed marketing projects in which she wrote copy and worked with graphic designers to develop concepts.
Prior to that, she was with Girls’ Life Magazine and girlslife.com for three years serving in several roles during that time, most recently as a Senior Editor. While with Girls’ Life Magazine and girlslife.com, Forr wrote, edited and developed features on a variety of topics including health, relationships, and entertainment. She also assisted in the website relaunch, generating new ideas for editorial content and the direction of the site.
Earlier in her career, Forr worked for national teen entertainment magazines J-14 and Twist, and for Soap Opera Digest. In addition, she has written and edited for various book and magazine publishers, websites, and companies on a freelance basis.
Forr earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts and Design with a print journalism concentration from James Madison University in 2002. While attending school, she was managing editor of The Breeze, the student-run newspaper, and was recognized as the James Madison University Media Arts & Design Print Journalism Student of the Year.
Forr will report to Katie Turner, National Aquarium Director of Creative Services.
