National Aquarium is pleased to announce the hiring of Ed Kiggins as Director of Creative Services and J. Bryan Barnes as Digital Marketing Manager. Both are additions to the organization’s marketing department.
As Director of Creative Services, Kiggins will direct the creative process for all internal and external communications, establish design direction, manage and evoke brand guidelines and manage collaborative projects. Kiggins will manage a team of the Aquarium’s writers, designers and outside vendors.
Kiggins joins the Aquarium from AAA Mid-Atlantic where he was the creative director since May 2000. In that role, he led the creative team, built out the annual editorial/content/campaign calendar for AAA.com and AAA World Magazine, as well as determined the delivery strategy across many channels. Kiggins oversaw the editorial and art departments, as well as all photography and illustration assignments. Additionally, he contributed to the writing of materials to support the communications strategy and designed web content, print/digital advertising sections and print/digital magazines. He also scripted, produced, shot and edited all video projects.
Prior to AAA Mid-Atlantic, Kiggins was the Art/Creative Director for several companies including Jobson Publications, Chilton Publications, Reed-Elsveier, Cahners Business Media and Merion Publications. He was a contributing writer for AAA Travel Views travel blog – Worldhim – and a blogger for Ethans-Ear.blogspot.com.
Kiggins attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where he received is Associates of Applied Science in Graphic Design before attending Richard Stockton College where he received his baccalaureate in marketing. He has received continuing education certificates in design software and programming languages from Temple University.
As Digital Marketing Manager, Barnes’ role is to enhance and facilitate user-centric e-channel solutions and effective digital marketing campaigns in order to engage the public in participating in National Aquarium’s mission to inspire conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures and to generate revenues. He is responsible for the strategic development, planning and execution of all digital marketing campaigns and for the management and enhancement of the website, mobile applications and other e-channels with a focus on customer service and online revenue generation.
Proir to joining National Aquarium, Barnes was the Digital Marketing Manager & Strategist for the State of Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) Office of Tourism, Film and the Arts, a role he had since 2010. From 2008-2010, he worked as a Campaign Manager for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) where he managed a fundraising campaign for the Team in Training and utilized social media to reach potential volunteers and donors as well as partner with other departments within the organization to develop cross-marketing strategies. Barnes worked as a Product Manager for One Eleven Records from 2004-2008.
Barnes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from the University of Maryland, College Park.
