The news is never dry at the National Aquarium in Baltimore!

Our fantastic collection of live animals and carefully recreated habitats is at the center of much of what we do. The people who work with the animals are great resources.

We've provided a few story ideas to help spark your imagination:

  • How did Aquarium experts prepare Australian animals for living in a new place and a new setting?
  • How did we prepare to installing a group of bats?
  • Really specialized diets – What do you feed a galah, crocodile, caiman, macaw or pygmy marmoset and how do you know when it’s had enough?
  • Taking the show on the road – in November the youngest Aquarium employees started learning about marine science.  By the summer, they’ll perform kid-focused conservation plays at local libraries through the award-winning Aquarium on Wheels program.
  • Teaching crocs to recognize their own names and other training techniques to get them to “play well with others.”
  • How the Conservation team uses high-tech solutions – from tracking rehabilitated seals and dolphins with satellite tags to GPS data on tidal wetlands restoration – to measure results and track animals.
  • How did animals get from Australia to the Aquarium?
  • Explore a day in the life of one of the Aquarium’s highly-trained educators, enthusiastic dolphin trainers, committed volunteers or thorough water quality experts.
  • Designing animal habitats: Coaxing a blue-tongued skink out of hiding so it’s visible to visitors, providing birds with room to fly while keeping them close enough to see, sustaining life from large crocodiles to tiny turtles, flying foxes to venomous snakes.
  • Real or fake? How do exhibit and design teams create realistic habitats?

If you’re fishing for news, we might have just the right hook.
