A Look Back at 2013, By the Numbers!
The National Aquarium is a private nonprofit organization, dedicated to protecting and preserving the ocean and all of its inhabitants. During this giving season, our staff is fundraising to support our important mission. Please take a look at a few of the examples below and consider joining us in raising funds.
Dr. Leigh Clayton
As Director of Animal Health, I count myself lucky to be working with such a talented and dedicated group of people. Whether it's overseeing regular animal procedures or dealing with last-minute surprises, it's comforting to know that I'm surrounded by such a smart and passionate team. Together, we're taking care of some pretty amazing animals.
Since joining the Aquarium, I've been able to witness and participate in so many amazing things. I'll never forget the experience of watching one of our younger dolphins, Beau, grow or the thrill of watching 20 blacktip reef sharks explore their brand-new home for the first time.

Ever since I was a little girl, I've had big dreams of working closely with animals. By the age of 12, I was an avid scuba diver - fully in love with the ocean and it's amazing creatures. It only took a few encounters with dolphins on family vacations to truly find my calling.
I feel incredibly lucky to have worked in this incredible field, as a marine mammal trainer, for almost 20 years!
Throughout my career, I have worked at many facilities, but being here at the National Aquarium for the past 7 years has arguably been the one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. My colleagues are some of the most dedicated, devoted and truly passionate people I've ever met! We're all united by our mission and are constantly challenging ourselves to go the extra mile in the name of ocean conservation and education.

This past August marked a huge milestone for National Aquarium, the grand opening of Blacktip Reef!
This breathtaking, 260,000 gallon exhibit gives visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves into the colorful activity of an Indo-Pacific reef. With over 800 animals, there’s a lot to see and learn about our brand-new exhibit and the habitat it represents! As Blacktip Reef continues to grow and evolve, we’re excited to provide its fans educational programming like our very popular Shark Cam, which has reached over 1.5 million viewers in the last five months!
This holiday season, we hope you’ll consider supporting Blacktip Reef and Shark Cam!
