Underwater worlds are waiting. Dive into a book today. Read five aquatic books, and receive four tickets to the National Aquarium.

Step 1

Step 1

Throughout the month of October 2016, children in fifth grade and younger may visit any Enoch Pratt Free Library branch and show their library card to receive a Read to Reef bookmark while supplies last.

Step 2

Step 2

Check out the list of the National Aquarium’s favorite aquatic or conservation-themed books or ask your librarian for suggestions. Borrow, read or listen to someone read any five of these books and record them on your Read to Reef bookmark.

Step 3

Step 3

Bring your completed bookmark to the National Aquarium’s ticket center before December 29, 2016 to exchange it for up to four admission tickets.

It's Your Aquarium

To celebrate our local roots and to give back to the community that has given us so much, the Aquarium is proud to host a number of programs that allow locals to visit their Aquarium for less. The National Aquarium and the Enoch Pratt Free Library are proud to partner in the Read to Reef Book Club as a means to both encourage reading and grant free admission to participating families through their local library branches.

By connecting our city youth’s love of reading to the aquatic world, the Aquarium hopes to drive awareness of our blue planet and the critical responsibility each of us has to protect it. We embrace the opportunity to raise an environmentally conscious generation that will respect and preserve the ocean that sustains us. Knowledge is a critical tool in achieving that goal—where better place to find it than in a book?

About Read to Reef

Who can participate?

Children in fifth grade and younger with a valid Enoch Pratt Free Library card may receive a Read to Reef bookmark and record the five aquatic- or conservation-themed books they have read that are appropriate for their age levels. Children may receive one bookmark per program season.

Did you know your child can have their own library card? Visit the Enoch Pratt Free Library website to learn how to apply. Please note the child must be present with parent, grandparent, or legal guardian when registering.

What books can I read?

You love reading and we love the ocean, so let’s see what we can do together! Booklists, which you can preview here or find at any Enoch Pratt Free Library branch, offer a list of Aquarium staff’s favorite aquatic- or conservation-themed books. However, any book in that theme counts, so ask your children's librarian for suggestions!

Remember, your bookmark must be complete with the titles of all five books you read before you come to the Aquarium, so be sure to record them as you read.

When does the program end?

Bookmarks are available at all Enoch Pratt Free Library branches beginning October 1, 2016 through October 31, 2016 or while supplies last.

You have until December 29, 2016 to complete your reading and visit the Aquarium with your completed bookmark.

Blackout dates include November 6 (Pay What You Want Day), November 25, and December 3-4 (Dollar Days), 2016.

Where are Enoch Pratt Free Library branches located?
