The theater will be closed for scheduled technology upgrades from Tuesday, September 5, through Saturday, September 30, 2017.
These upgrades will provide our guests with an even better audio, visual and 4-D experience when the theater reopens on Sunday, October 1 with two new films, “Happy Feet 4-D Experience” as well as “Shark: A 4-D Experience,” which is making its National Aquarium debut.
Shark: A 4-D Experience ®
Come face to face with some of the world’s most strange and mysterious shark species. These extraordinarily intelligent underwater giants each exhibit unique behaviors to navigate their ever-changing environment. Essential to the fragile balance of our ocean’s health, Shark: A 4-D Experience® explores the complex nature of these magnificent creatures’ survival instincts. Stunning 3-D and special effects place you right in the middle of the action as sharks reveal their hidden traits while roaming an eerily beautiful underwater landscape.

What Is 4-D?
The Aquarium's 4-D Immersion Theater is equipped with 4-D capabilities, which combine the high-definition drama of a 3-D film with special sensory effects that are built into the theater seats and environment.
Films are transformed into 15-minute experiences that bring on-screen images virtually to life with special effects, such as mist, wind, snow, bubbles, leg ticklers, scents, enhanced lighting and seat vibrations!
Please note: The 4-D Immersion Films contain theatrical lighting, including strobe lights. Please use discretion if your child is easily startled, or if you have medical conditions related to your back. An assistive listening system is available; please ask a theater attendant for a headset prior to seating.
Members can purchase 4-D tickets at the member entrance.
