Breezy Point Restoration Event

Breezy Point Park, Naval Station - Norfolk, Virginia

The National Aquarium in Baltimore in partnership with the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and Commander, Navy Region Mid Atlantic (CNRMA) are currently recruiting volunteers to help create a riparian buffer located at Breezy Point Park on Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia. The Aquarium has partnered with the CNRMA in the past working on sand dune and Submerged Aquatic Vegetation habitat restoration.

Riparian buffers play a significant role in soil conservation, improved water quality, healthy aquatic ecosystems and offer diverse wildlife habitat.  They act as natural biofilters and protect the waterways from excess surface runoff pollution.

  • Volunteers are needed to help plant a variety of grasses, trees and shrubs along the water’s edge.
  • Due to Naval Station regulations all participants must be a US Citizen and a minimum age of 10.
  • All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
