Did you know that at least 1/3 of all known amphibian species are threatened with extinction? The National Aquarium has teamed up with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in support of a global effort to bring attention to amphibian conservation and their endangerment. With more than 6,000 frogs, toads, newts, salamanders, and caecilians worldwide, there's a lot to learn, but we can all do something to help.
Remember, what's good for frogs is good for the bay and good for us.
Here's what's happening during Froggy Fridays:
Dive in to a shark's world of mystery and magic July 27-August 2, as the Aquarium celebrates in Discovery Channel's annual Shark Week event. Meet with expert Aquarium exhibit guides and learn the truth about these amazing animals. Did you know some species can see in color? Or, that the prehistoric megalodon shark was as big as a Greyhound bus?
Plus, get uncomfortably close and dare to walk the catwalk where our sharks sleep silently beneath you during a Sharks! Behind the Scenes Tour or Sleepover with the Sharks! (Advance reservations are required for Tours and Sleepover with the Sharks.)
Take action! Through overfishing and habitat destruction, the number of sharks are decling at an alarming rate. From thoughtful seafood choices and responsible trash disposal, make an effort to protect sharks and their relatives, skates and rays. On your next visit to the Aquarium, ask what you can do to help.
