Animal Rescue Update: Final Turtle Release of the Season

We celebrated the release of six Kemp’s ridley sea turtle patients earlier this week!

Published March 31, 2017

After a busy season, these turtles were the last group to be released from our initial intake of 21 cold-stunned patients. One turtle patient continues to improve, but was transferred to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium for more rehabilitation.aquarium-staff-release-sea-turtle

Since 1991, the National Aquarium has successfully rehabilitated and released 105 endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles. Our sea turtle facility is now closed for maintenance and improvements that will allow us to continue to serve our network of rehabilitation partners. We will reopen in time for cold-stun season next year!
