Phil, the male harbor seal in our care, has been cleared for release by our veterinary team!

Published June 23, 2017

After stranding in Delaware, Phil was admitted to our Animal Rescue program in April. Throughout his time in rehab, he has made great progress. He recovered from an eye infection, dehydration and other ailments while in our care.

Recently, he has been responding well to enrichment activities and eating on his own! His final test results show that he is in good health and has recovered from his initial symptoms. These signs indicated to our staff that he is ready for release!

Pending NOAA approval, on the morning of Tuesday, June 27, our team will be transporting Phil to Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook, New Jersey for release. His release will be open to the public. For those interested in joining, the release will take place at approximately 10:30 am from beach area B. For park information, maps and parking rates please visit Sandy Hook park's website.

Stay tuned for more coverage of Phil’s release!
