Our General Curator, Jack Cover, recently gave the publication Biohabitats a behind-the-scenes peek at some of the salamander species on exhibit here at the Aquarium, including the rarely seen Texas blind salamander!
As you can see from its unique build, this salamander species is well-equipped for its dark, damp life in the caves of Edwards Aquifer in south Texas. Given that they live in total darkness, these salamanders have no eyes! They rely mostly on smell and vibration to find food.
