Happy Sloth Week, Friends!

Did you know? This week marks the first-ever dedicated, online celebration of everyone's favorite lethargic mammalians, sloths!



Sloths are arguably best known for being the world's slowest mammals, but there's so much more to love about these amazing creatures. Here are a few of our favorite sloth facts:
  • They're surprisingly excellent (and speedy!) swimmers.  Don't believe us? Check out this video of a three-toed pygmy sloth making its way down river. 
  • Their fur plays host to multiple species of moth and algae. It's a symbiotic relationship! In return for a cozy home, the algae's greenish hue perfectly camouflages the sloth into the canopy. 
  • They understand the importance of beauty sleep. On average, sloths sleep for 20 hours every day! 
  • A species of giant sloth once roamed the Earth. The now-extinct Megatherium  was the size of an elephant and could be found in North and South America!
