Baltimore’s Water Wheel (Deservedly) Garners International Attention

Published July 28, 2014

The Inner Harbor has a new crown jewel - a solar-powered Water Wheel, capable of removing up to 50,000 pounds of trash from our local waterways daily.

Created by Clearwater Mills LLC, Baltimore’s Water Wheel has already collected over 58 tons of plastic trash, foam cups, cigarette butts and the occasional tire!

The immediate needs and hopes for the Water Wheel are community-based, but the potential for this innovative technology reaches far beyond Charm City.

The Water Wheel is supported by the Healthy Harbor Initiative and is part of greater plans to make the Inner Harbor swimmable by 2020.
